THE 24-INCH (60.7cm) HAMMIL TELESCOPE

THE 24-INCH HAMMIL TELESCOPE IS CURRENTLY UNDERGOING CONSTRUCTION. IT WILL UTILIZE A 24-INCH COMPOSITE MIRROR DESIGNED AND CONSTRUCTED BY GENE FARE WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF ROGER ANGEL. THE RESEARCH GRADE OPTICS ARE ACCURATE UP TO 6 ANGSTROMS OF FLEXURE UNDER THERE OWN WEIGHT AND 0.25 WAVE. THEY ARE OF SUPERLATIVE QUALITY FOR THERE SIZE. WHEREAS CERTAIN ASPECTS OF THE DESIGN FOR THE MOUNT AND ENCLOSURE ARE STILL IN THE DESIGN PHASE, THE NORTH WEST ASTRONOMY GROUP HAS A NUMBER OF PHYSICAL COMPONENTS FOR THE TUBE ASSEMBLY "IN HAND" AND FINAL ASSEMBLY OF THIS INSTRUMENT HAS COMMENCED.

PROPOSED APPLICATIONS FOR THIS INSTRUMENT INCLUDE ITS USE IN BACK-UP POSITIONAL ASTROMETRY TO FREE UP TIME ON LARGER INSTRUMENTS INVOLVED IN NEAR EARTH ASTEROID WORK AND ALSO IT USE FOR A LIMITED NEAR EARTH OBJECT DISCOVERY PROGRAM.
